Injuries experienced on school-based PV projects
At CEI, safety is a mindset, not simply a behavior. We conduct all operations with the utmost regard for the safety of our employees, our customers, the public and the environment. Our ultimate goal is to complete all projects incident-and injury-free. This helps us to ensure overall safety and deliver projects that are completed without costly, injury-related delays.
Cupertino Electric’s safety program has been recognized as second in the nation by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) among specialty contractors working more than one million hours in 2011. The AGC’s Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA) recognizes construction companies that excel at safety performance, based on demonstrated management commitment, active employee participation, safety training, work site hazard identification and control, and program innovation. As a precursor to the national AGC safety award, Cupertino Electric was given the “Safety Awards of Excellence” by the Associated General Contractors of California in both 2011 and 2012 for its outstanding commitment to developing and implementing an iterative safety program.
CEI was named ENR California’s 2012 “Specialty Contractor of the Year” for its focus on safety, innovation and community involvement, and is a two-time recipient of the AGC of California’s “Safety Award of Excellence” for specialty contractors working more than 1 million hours.
Our laser-like focus on safety begins with our employees, who undergo thorough safety orientation sessions prior to each job. We then develop site-specific safety plans, which employees review and sign each day. In addition, we regularly evaluate our own safety performance, to ensure that we continually meet or exceed all safety, health and environmental regulations.
Through open lines of communication and continuously improving safety practices, CEI’s 2011 recordable injury rate was nearly half the industry-wide rate for electrical contractors working in California. Despite expanding into new markets with new employees in recent years, CEI’s intense focus on safety remains constant.
