Description: |
The Accounting Manager offers a variety of services to the Accounting & Finance Group. While providing oversight to the payroll and billing departments, this key position is also involved in month-end closing procedures, process revision and development, job costing activities, internal control development, and other special projects. Candidates should have management experience and exhibit initiative, problem awareness, decisiveness, conscientiousness, and a strong customer service attitude. While certain components of the position are fixed, candidates should be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and special projects as needed. Responsibilities are primarily accounting-natured, but often require cross-functional collaboration and teamwork. Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm for the development of direct reports and bring an avenue of experience in accounting, reporting, and problem solving.

Responsibilities include: |
- Manage and provide guidance for Payroll and AP.
- Monitor and improve consistency in practices.
- Drive month-end close procedures (balancing applications with GL, supporting the Assistant Controller with analysis and clean-up, etc.).
- General support for Corporate Controller and Assistant Controller.
- Assist with operating plan development.
- Provide support to branch and project managers with special analysis, ad hoc reports, etc.
- Heavy involvement in roll-out of new ERP system (beginning Q4 2004).

Requirements: |
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration required. CPA a plus
- 5-7 years of general accounting experience (public accounting experience is a plus)
- Experience in a construction environment (preferable a specialty contractor i.e., electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc.) is a must
- Specialized knowledge: Understanding of core GAAP and familiarity with SOP 81-1 (Accounting for Performance of Construction-Type Contracts)
- Supervisory responsibility: This position currently manages the payroll and billing supervisors but may also assume responsibility for additional functions (accounts payable, job cost, etc.)
