Cupertino Electric solar energy system built by Cupertino Electric for the State Compensation Insurance Fund in Vacaville, California
When the 90-year-old non-profit organization State Compensation Insurance Fund (SCIF) decided to build a new facility in Vacaville, California, it wanted to take advantage of the sunny Central Valley location and reduce its energy costs. SCIF ultimately chose General Contractor Devcon Construction, Inc. to oversee construction of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system installed by Cupertino Electric's Energy Alternatives Division.
To maximize the valley’s powerful solar rays and the functionality of the solar system, Cupertino Electric procured and constructed a 226-kilowatt (kW) PV system that was comprised of 15 carports at the SCIF campus. By installing the solar energy system on the single-column parking lot carport canopies at the site, SCIF employees benefit from visually-appealing covered parking spots that are actively reducing the organization’s energy costs.
