On February 27th, 2013, Cupertino Electric Inc. (San Jose, California, U.S.) announced that it has broken ground on a 230 kilovolt (kV) transmission line to interconnect a new substation serving a 200 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Imperial Valley, California.
The utility-scale PV plant in Southern California is expected to produce energy for more than 240,000 households.
"We are honored to be part of this project that will have tremendous positive impact at both the local and state level. While it's great to be recognized for our overhead expertise and ability to help build-out the renewable energy infrastructure in California, we are most excited about our ability to employ so many people locally who can help us make a lasting and positive effect on the environment," stated Scott Mitchell, energy infrastructure division manager for Cupertino Electric.
